The Hawks held its first open training session of 2013 on Friday morning as the group trained in front of a passionate crowd who braved the early morning heat.

The players hit the track at approximately 9.30am and fans were treated to an intense and competitive training run that lasted almost two hours.

From running drills, skills, agility and groups of match simulation, fans didn't know where to look as action was aplenty on the oval at the Ricoh Centre.

Voices were high and the skills were sharp as the coaches had each of the players working hard in preparation for the 2013 season.

Players were split into three groups to participate in ball movement drills, with the three groups spil into two teams.

The highlight of the session was an intriguing battle between Lance Franklin and Ryan Schoenmakers who went head-to-head in one of the groups.

The battle probably ended even though, with both players getting the better of one another on a number of occasions.

Matt Suckling was pretty happy with how training was going, or did he find it amusing he wasn't using his left foot?

Either way, Roughead supported his teammate.

How athletic is Cyril Rioli? He flies for an overhead mark and plucks it.
