LANCE Franklin remains free to face Geelong in round one after being cleared of any wrongdoing by the Match Review Panel on Monday.

The panel reviewed Franklin's contact on Gold Coast's Matt Shaw during the second half of Hawthorn's one-point NAB Cup loss on Saturday night, but found the big forward had no case to answer.

"As the ball was kicked forward, Shaw cut across Franklin's line in a bid to intercept the ball and high contact was made, for which a free kick was paid," the MRP's statement said.

"After viewing all available footage, the panel said that Franklin had his hand open in a bid to gather the ball when contact was made and it was their view the action was not a striking action.

"No further action was required."
