Heading into his tenth season at AFL level Brad Sewell had yet another consistent year in 2013.

After amassing 33 disposals in the Hawks' loss to Geelong in the opening round, Sewell suffered a minor hamstring injury against West Coast in Round 2 that would see him sidelined for three weeks.

Upon return he struggled to maintain consistency in his game over the next five weeks averaging well below his average of 20.8 disposals per match.

This would eventually lead to his omission from the Round 16 team that defeated Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

Never one to back down, Sewell impressed on the training track and earned himself a recall for the Round 17 clash with the Bulldogs at Aurora Stadium.

Sewell proved his worth by gaining 24 disposals, including 10 kicks and 14 handballs. But the standout in his performance was his hardness at the ball that had been missing over the past few weeks.

He led from the front laying 6 tackles in a stellar performance that cemented his position in the senior side for the remainder of the season.

Finishing the year strong averaging 22 disposals has given Sewell the confidence he needs to be a solid contributor in 2014 and continue to be a vital cog in the side, in which he has been over the past five years.

A second premiership was just reward for the hard running midfielder, as he is not only respected by his teammates but the football public as well.

As one of the leaders at the club Sewell is the prime example of what determination and resilience can do for a player's career.

Being drafted as a rookie and earning elevation to the senior list Sewell has made a name for himself the hard way.

His leadership, positive attitude and guidance along with his on-field talents are the main reasons he's such a highly respected person in the football world.

What Chris Fagan said: “He had some good games during the season, probably not at the same level of consistency that ‘Sewelly’ would necessarily like but was a really important player for us in the Qualifying Final win over Sydney.

His leadership around the place is really respected and it was another solid contribution from him this year."
