Hawthorn is proud to support Beacon as its nominated match-day charity for Round 5.

Hawthorn Football Club and the Beacon Foundation share a common passion – a desire for young Australians to kick personal goals by making positive choices about their future.

Now in its 25th year, Beacon has worked in hundreds of schools and communities across Australia, positively impacting the lives of more than 100,000 students. Beacon will be rattling tins on the concourse prior to the Round 5 clash against North Melbourne at the MCG, so bring a buck for Beacon to support its wonderful programs.

You could also go in the draw to win a team-signed Hawks guernsey and two tickets to the Footy Show by simply liking the Beacon Foundation page on Facebook by Friday 3 May.

More about Beacon

A not-for-profit organisation, the Beacon Foundation works with secondary schools in disadvantaged communities across the country to provide positive pathways and opportunities for students. Beacon has an established track record of helping inspire and motivate students to stay in school, increase their educational engagement and attainment, or alternatively choose a positive pathway that enables successful transition to employment, further education or training.

Hawthorn actively participates in Beacon programs with the aim to inspire, motivate and up skill students. The Hawks team up with Beacon throughout the year and host industry tour days at the Ricoh Centre, Waverley Park. During these sessions, members of the Club’s administration staff showcase the wide-ranging career opportunities within the business, and give students an insight into the inner workings of an elite sporting organisation.

In addition to the industry tour days, players recently visited Beacon’s head office in Hobart during Hawthorn’s 2013 AFL Community Camp. The players hosted a speed careering event with students from schools in the area, each focusing on a different topic such as leadership, overcoming adversity and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. This was a valuable session for students to gain a better understanding of the challenges footballers face in their careers..
