Hawthorn forward Michael Osborne will undergo a traditional knee reconstruction after consultation with Club doctors and a specialist.

Scans confirmed Osborne sustained a high grade but incomplete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral ligament in his left knee, while being tackled during Friday night’s match against Melbourne.

Hawthorn’s General Manager - Football Operations Mark Evans said Osborne has approached the prospect of surgery and rehabilitation with professionalism.

“While it’s extremely disappointing for Michael, his commitment and dedication to a strong rehabilitation is first-class,” he said.

“Michael’s a vibrant member of the playing group and is well respected by his teammates, and we look forward to having him back at the Club after a short stint away following his surgery.”

Osborne is expected to miss the remainder of the 2012 premiership season.
