Hawthorn’s Brent Guerra has always been a quiet achiever, hard to believe with his bullet-like passes to teammates in space. He is, more often than not, entrusted with the kick-in duties too, highlighting his importance to the Hawthorn side.

In the Dream Team world, however, Guerra has never been on the must-have list of most coaches, but that is all changing in season 2012.

Such has been his good form this season, Guerra was watched closely by Melbourne’s James Magner in Friday night’s 66-point thrashing of the Demons. Guerra averages 19 disposals per game, at 82 per cent efficiency, one of the best in the league.

He also provides plenty of drive for the Hawks off half back, with four rebound 50s per game. It is no wonder the Demons highlighted him as a player to watch when the Hawks win possession in their back half.

Those numbers, along with an average of three tackles per game have translated to impressive Dream Team scores, ranking him as one of the best defensive options for coaches. His best return, a 119-point effort against St Kilda, where he gathered 25 disposals in one of his best game so far this season. His average across the seven games this season stands at 84.4, but in his last three games, have taken that average to 86.7.

He is owned by just 7,163 coaches, up from 6,073 ahead of Round 7, meaning that 1,090 coaches traded in the Hawks’ defender in a week. His price, $404,100 is manageable and not too heavy given his output and ability to score heavily.

Round 8 spotlight

Brad Sewell ($402,300) - Another quiet achiever for the Hawks, how plies his trade in and under the packs has again impressed in the world of Dream Team. In arguably his best game for the Hawks this season, Sewell had 32 possessions, seven tackles and four clearances against the Demons to notch 114 Dream Team points. That takes his season average to 86.8, and an average of 92.7 in his past three matches.

Grant Birchall ($398,200) - In his second game back from injury, Birchall enjoyed a night out at the MCG on Friday, amassing 103 points against the Demons. Given his poor score against the Saints in Round 6, however, his price dropped $12,100 this week, reducing his price to $398,200 - a drop of $45,300 from his starting price. This would be a great time to pounce on the Hawks’ star if you don’t already have him in your side.

Brendan Whitecross ($379,400) - After exploding onto the Dream Team scene earlier this season, Whitecross disappointed coaches in the Round 4 match against the Eaqgles, scoring just 41 points at Patersonsd Stadium. Since then though, the Hawks forward has shown he is a consistent Dream Team performer with scores of 82, 81 and 88 in Round 5,6 and 7 respectively. After a peak price of $416,900, achieved in Round 4, Whitecross’ price has dropped back to $379,400 and with an average of 89.5 points per game he is definitely a good choice for your forward line.
