Launceston Camps

Group A

On day two of the Community Camp, the six players in Launceston Group A travelled to Ashley Youth Detention Centre through not-for-profit group Whitelion.

After a lively kick-to-kick session, the players spoke to the youths and their Whitelion mentors about football, training, leadership, mentoring, goal-setting and life outside of football.

The experience was particularly rewarding for young Hawks Matt Suckling, Ryan Schoenmakers and Liam Shiels who are only a few years older than some of the detainees. Luke Hodge, Jordan Lewis and Michael Osborne, who are in the Club's leadership group, also enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the teens.

The players then had a light training session at Invermay Park before heading across to Aurora Stadium for the Active Launceston Expo.

Over 200 locals joined the Hawks players to test their skills at all the different sports on offer including archery, rowing, netball, totem tennis, pole dancing and lawn bowls.

There was approximately 150 kids in attendance having fun and getting some one-on-one time with the players.

In the afternoon the two Launceston groups joined forces and went to the Active Launceston expo at Aurora Stadium for the evening activities.

Hobart Camps

Group A

Day two saw a group of Hawks head out to New Norfolk to cheer on local school children taking part in the MBF Junior Triathlon series.

Over 100 children competed with around 250 parents and siblings giving their support.

Cyril Rioli and Travis Tuck operated the starter gun, while Sam Grimley and Sam Mitchell wondered around the track to offer encouragement.

Life Be in it hosted the day in conjunction with MBF, on another sunny day on the Apple Isle.

Burnie Camp

Players on the North West Coast enjoyed a morning at everyone’s favourite, Camp Clayton. With fantastic facilities, only the brave enough had a go on the high ropes course and the bravest took on the giant swing, including an upside down Beau Dowler.

Over 120 children took part in the  activities, including hauling their favourite players on the swing, to a hit of cricket and then finally sack races against Campbell Brown.

After lunch, the players took part in a training session on West Park Oval where 30 keen followers watched on before hitting the field for a kick. Then the tour moved to Anzac Park to enjoy the Burnie Moves Expo.

Rhan Hooper displayed his outstanding gymnastic skills while Jarryd Roughead took part in a more subdued Tai Chi session. The highlight for many was the Outriggers Canoe Club boat race. All players took to the water as part of four different teams with Taylor and Rhan victorious.

This event was a great tribute to the local sporting organizations in the North West area and attracted approximately 700 people.
