The Glenferrie Gold - the Life Patrons of the Hawks Museum - were treated to their fourth annual function held in the Museum and the Corporate Suite at Waverley Park in August.

The event acknowledged the 50th, 40th and 20th anniversaries for the 1961, 1971 and 1991 Hawthorn premierships respectively.

Hosted by Michael Derum and three premiership captains - Graham Arthur, David Parkin and Michael Tuck - the day consisted of reminiscing about the responsibilities of leading their teams to the ultimate success and how football has changed.

The proceedings were highlighted by the light-hearted banter and the respect that the three captains had for one another, with the audience hanging onto every word uttered between the three champions.

Arthur set the scene speaking of the privilege and honour in leading the team out onto the MCG to play in the Club’s first grand final appearance in 1961 and then to win it.

Parkin’s story centred on his strong personal desire to play in a premiership. He spoke of the humiliating defeat at the hands of Geelong in the losing 1963 Grand Final when he considered himself to have played the worst game in his life and how he saw 1971 as the last chance of atonement

Michael Tuck had the audience in the palm of his hand as he talked about what he could remember of the four premierships he won as captain, 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1991.

26 Life Patrons were in attendance, and were lucky enough to participate in a panel with the three captains.

The function came to a close with refreshments and followed by photographs with the three Premiership Captains, as well as the opportunity for guests to chat with their heroes from 61, 71 and 91.
