Guerra enjoyed an outstanding 2012 season, but it ended in heartbreak when he tore his hamstring in round 23, sidelining him for the finals. Before that, the rugged half-back provided his usual drive from defence, averaging 18.4 disposals and 3.2 rebound 50s a game (ranked No. 1 at the Hawks). He did everything he could to get fit for the Grand Final, but selflessly ruled himself out with five days to go. Was given Hawthorn’s best clubman award for his professionalism and attitude during that testing time. This season will be Guerra’s 14th in the AFL and eighth with the Hawks, and he should notch his 250th game.

Draft history: 1999 National AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Port Adelaide) No. 28 overall traded by the Western Bulldogs for Nathan Eagleton; 2003 NAB AFL Draft traded by Port Adelaide for No. 39 (Robert Forster-Knight); 2006 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft 1st round selection (Hawthorn) No. 3 overall.
