The ferocious midfielder enjoyed his most prolific season, averaging 25.8 disposals, leading the Hawks in hard-ball gets (13th in the AFL) and tackles (he laid more than 10 in six games) and being second in handballs. Named in the initial All-Australian squad of 40, he received an equal club-high 13 Brownlow votes and finished fourth in the best and fairest. Has evolved from a tagger to a run-with player to an attacking midfielder. His courage was amplified when he took a heavy knock from then-Essendon skipper Matthew Lloyd in the final round.
