The former North Melbourne player has become a leader of the team's defence and was outstanding in his second season at Waverley Park. With Ben Stratton and Stephen Gilham largely sidelined by injury, the under-sized but athletic Gibson usually took the opposition’s best forward and often came out ahead. His great leap and excellent judgment came to the fore and he used the ball well when he had it. Was unlucky not to be named All-Australian and will relish 2012 with other fit and tall defenders around him.
