Mobile tall defender who developed in leaps and bounds last year, lifting himself from the rookie list to play the last two games, averaging 12 disposals against Richmond and Essendon. Has similarities to Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury in that he is tall and angular, smart, has great evasive skills and is a good ball user. Needs to add some muscle.
Draft history: 2009 Rookie Draft selection (Hawthorn) No. 16.
Watch Riley Milne in action
Mobile tall defender who rebounds well and knows how to read the play. Played a key role as a defender in the Murray Bushrangers’ 2008 TAC Cup premiership team and represented Vic Country in the under-18 carnival.
Jason McCartney says: A tall and lean key defender who escaped my attention in the first couple of under-18 games. He really impressed with his attack on the footy and courage to play in front. He was good overhead and also ended up winning a bit of footy against WA, with 18 disposals and six rebound-50s.
Vic Country U18 coach Robert Hyde says: Riley Milne played every game for the Murray Bushrangers. He’s a very rangy sort of player. He had to play on much stronger talls when he played in the nationals. He runs the lines particularly well and he finds the footy. It’s just a matter for him to try and get some strength and put 10 or so kilos on.
