Hawthorn’s VFL and VFLW teams are edging closer to a return to the field with pre-season training commencing this month.

The Hawks VFLW team kicked off their pre-season training on November 8 ahead of an anticipated return to matches next year.

Meanwhile, the Box Hill Hawks will head back to training from November 23.

Both teams will be heading into the their 2022 seasons under new coaches with Clint Proctor appointed as Box Hill's senior coach while Cherie O’Neill will take over the reins of VFLW.

It comes after Sam Mitchell and Bec Goddard were promoted to the senior coaching positions within Hawthorn’s AFL and AFLW teams respectively.

Working as an assistant coach under Mitchell with Box Hill this year, Proctor has more than 10 years’ experience coaching across VFL, TSL and NAB League levels.

O’Neill also arrives at the Hawks on the back of an impressive coaching resume that has most recently seen her in an assistant coaching role at the Bendigo Pioneers in the NAB League competition.

The return to pre-season comes after the VFLW and VFL competitions were forced to end abruptly in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Both grand finals were cancelled, and no premiership was awarded across either league.
