Captain Ben McEvoy and youngster Denver Grainger-Barras are among the key additions to Hawthorn's 26-man squad ahead of Sunday's clash with Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

Grainger-Barras, who has not played a senior game since Round 11, has been named in the starting line-up.

Josh Morris and Finn Maginness, along with and first-year player's Josh Ward and Jai Serong also feature among the ins after having been named on the extended bench.

Kyle Hartigan, Liam Shiels and Daniel Howe round out a total of nine additions to the squad.

McEvoy returns to the mix after only playing one game this year due to a neck injury that he sustained following Round 2.

McEvoy makes his return

Ward, the 2021 Pick 7, hasn't played a senior game since he sustained a concussion in Round 8 of the VFL.

But since returning through Box Hill he has produced strong results including a 27-disposal performance last weekend.

If selected in the final team, it will mark Ward's eighth senior game this year.

Meanwhile, James Worpel (shoulder) and Lachlan Bramble (back) are among the confirmed outs due to their season-ending injuries.

Sam Butler has also been ruled out for Sunday's game after suffering a shin injury.

Will Day will miss the clash due to a one-week suspension, while Jack Gunston will also not play due to personal reasons.

Hawthorn will announce its Round 17 team on Friday at 5pm on www.hawthornfc.com.au.
