HAWTHORN'S Grant Birchall has been offered a $1000 sanction by the AFL Match Review Panel for rough conduct.

Birchall was charged with engaging in rough conduct against Jordan Roughead in the opening term of the Hawks' three-point, Round 3 win against Western Bulldogs.

The incident was assessed as careless conduct wih medium impact to the body.

It was classified as a $1500 sanction, however Birchall has no applicable record which impacts the sanction, meaning an early plea will enable him to accept a $1000 sanction.
