HAWTHORN veteran Shaun Burgoyne will play his 300th AFL game against Adelaide Crows on Friday night.

The 33-year-old made his debut in 2002, after being selected by Port Adelaide with pick 12 in the 2000 National Draft.

Burgoyne played 157 games for the Power between 2002 and 2009, including the club’s first AFL premiership in 2004.

The highly skilled utility then crossed to the Hawks at the end of 2009, in exchange for picks nine and 16.

Burgoyne has gone on to play in three premierships for the Hawks – 2013, 2014 and 2015 – from 142 club games.

His list of achievements is lengthy.

He has played 31 finals – equal second for any AFL player, ever – and has played the past 62 games in succession.

Burgoyne will become the fifth Indigenous player to reach the 300-game mark, following in the footsteps of Adam Goodes, Andrew McLeod, Michael O’Loughlin and Gavin Wanganeen.

He was an All Australian in 2006 and has also represented Australia, in 2008.

This week we pay tribute to a fantastic career, which hopefully still has many chapters to be written.

We’ll be using the hashtag #Silk300 to relive some of Shaun’s great moments and acknowledge a champion of the game - we hope you’ll do the same.
