President Jeff Kennett has penned the following note to members...

I salute Tom Mitchell on being awarded the 2018 Brownlow Medal last night.

Such awards are not for the faint hearted, but for those who work hard at their trade and are judged the Best and Fairest throughout the season.

Tom has all those attributes and more. He is constantly training, he has good values and he is an extraordinary athlete.

Last year he won our Peter Crimmins Medal and was runner up in the Brownlow.

This year he has won the Brownlow, and if that were not enough he also was judged by his peers as this year’s Most Valuable Player in the competition.

What an extraordinary two years.

We are fortunate to have Tom Mitchell among our ranks. He has bought further glory to our club in achieving the sixth Brownlow Medal to be awarded to a Hawthorn player.

He sets a standard for all our young players and we look forward to next year’s season.

On behalf of the Board and our 81,000 members we congratulate you, Tom.
