Hawthorn Football Club has secured Jack Scrimshaw in their first deal of the 2018 NAB AFL Trade Period.

The talented young defender will return to his home state after two seasons at the Gold Coast Suns, having been drafted with Pick 7 in the 2016 National Draft.

In exchange for Scrimshaw, Gold Coast will receive the Hawks’ future third round draft pick, for the Suns’ future fourth round selection.

Hawthorn’s GM – Football Graham Wright said the 20-year old is a welcome addition to the club.

“Jack is a very talented player and our coaches look forward to working with Jack to maximise his full potential back in Melbourne,” Wright said.

“We would like to thank the Gold Coast Suns for their professionalism during this negotiation.”

Scrimshaw suffered concussion and fractured his cheekbone in April, but finished the 2018 NEAFL season strongly, collecting 31 disposals in Gold Coast’s last game.

Recruiters likened the 193cm rebounding defender to four-time premiership Hawk Grant Birchall.

Scrimshaw spent his early years of football playing with the Sandringham Dragons and Haileybury College.
