Review

After being one of Box Hill’s most consistent contributors throughout the season, Marc Pittonet got his senior opportunities in Rounds 21 and 22 this year.

In comparison to his previous exposure at AFL level when he played three games in 2016, Pittonet made clear improvements in his ruckwork this year, averaging 25 hit-outs over his fortnight playing for Hawthorn.

At VFL level, the 22-year-old was one of the dominant ruckmen of the competition, averaging 40 hit-outs to go along with averages of 14 disposals and four tackles per game.

Box Hill coach Chris Newman often praised the 202cm ruckman’s ability to mix it with experienced AFL big men, while his ability to give second and third efforts for a man of his size was also frequently applauded by the premiership coach.

Pittonet’s season was rewarded by becoming a VFL premiership player after the Hawks overcame Casey in the Grand Final.
