Hawks Netball nears Round 1

JLT2: Silk on display Shaun Burgoyne proves that tricks are not just for the young as he dribbles this goal through during the first quarter.

The Hawks Championship side will kick off their 2019 season in just over two weeks with a blockbuster Round 1 match-up against last year’s premiers City West Falcons in the Bupa Victorian Netball League.

The Falcons ended the Hawks’ 2018 campaign, dealing the Hawks a heartbreaking semi-final loss before going on to take out the premiership.

But with a new-look line-up on board and a strong pre-season now under their belt, the Hawks girls will be determined to get one back on the Falcons in the season opener.

Former Hawks goaler Shae Gee returns to the Victorian Netball League after an extended break from the competition, while veteran Lauren Bennett will don the club’s colours once again.

Defender Clare Johnson will also suit up in the Championship division, having starred in the club’s Division 1 premiership.

You can catch the clash between the Hawks and the Falcons at the State Basketball Centre (291 George St, Wantirna South) on Saturday, March 30 at 6.20pm.
