Jack Gunston has booted the equal biggest bag of his career, finishing with six majors down in Launceston to help his side to a 31-point victory.

Gunston was dominant early, kicking the first two goals of the match, before opening the second term with another.

According to Coach Alastair Clarkson, the versatile forward proved the difference on the day, navigating the tricky conditions better than most.

“He’s been playing okay for us (across the course of the season), but just hasn’t been converting the chances he’s had,” Clarkson said during his post-match press conference.

“He’s had to play different roles for us at different stages this year, we’ve had to take him down back… and we’ve taken him up onto the wing from time to time.

“He’s such a flexible player for us.

“But today he was probably the difference between the two sides, in terms of him being able to get his hands on the footy and then convert opportunities.

“On a pretty grubby day, his polish with the ball in the front third of the ground was pretty important for us in securing the victory.

“We played some good footy. We needed to be tough and hard and I think we matched Port in that area of the game.

“They’re a good side and they’ve won some really good games and played some good footy this year.
