Delisted free agent Ricky Henderson will join the Hawks in season 2017.

Henderson was drafted by Adelaide Football Club in the 2008 rookie draft with pick 10.

The 28-year-old has played 90 games for the Crows since making his debut in 2010.

Henderson grew up in regional Victoria where he spent the majority of his time playing basketball, having only played three games of AFL before being drafted.

However his natural athleticism impressed recruiters and at the age of 20 he found himself at the Crows.

Henderson said he was thrilled to be given an opportunity with the Hawks.

“I’m just excited that I’ve been given the chance to continue my career with the Hawks,” he said.

“I think I’ve got plenty of good footy in me and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into preseason and taking my opportunities.”

In 2015, Henderson’s most consistent and injury free season, he averaged 19 possessions across 17 games and was a key contributor in the Crows’ elimination final win.

The 188cm midfielder managed nine senior games for the Crows this season, averaging 22 possessions.

Henderson can play in a variety of positions and the Hawks will be hoping he can bring some extra dash of half-back.

Hawthorn Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said:

“Ricky is a terrific addition to our list and has the versatility to play both in the midfield and across half-back.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the club and seeing what he can produce in the brown and gold.”
