As Round 1 of the 2020 season nears, we've taken a look back at the past two months of last season.

In that period, the Hawks won six of their final eight games with four of those victories coming against four finals-bound sides.

Over the summer, the squad was buoyed by this run of momentum to finish the season with a sense that that form can continue into the new year.

Hawthorn kept its top-eight hopes alive in Round 17 last year with a gritty 31-point win over Fremantle in Launceston.

Despite Nat Fyfe earning another three Brownlow votes in an inspiring performance that would lead to his second Brownlow Medal later in the year, the Hawks proved too hard to beat after kicking the first five goals of the game.

Following a break-out performance the week prior against Collingwood, youngster Mitchell Lewis kicked three goals for Hawthorn, including two back-to-back at a crucial juncture late in the third term.

Luke Bruest also snared three majors and Chad Wingard two, while James Worpel finished with a team-high 33 possessions.
