Good news story of the week; Harry Jones will make his AFL debut when the Hawks take on the Giants this Sunday.

Jones has been plying his trade on the Hawks’ list since being taken Pick 7 in the 2017 Rookie Draft.

A talented midfielder, the 21-year-old boasts impressive foot speed and endurance, and has shown his ability to hunt possessions at VFL level. In the recent scratch match against Richmond, Jones managed a game-high 39 disposals.

GM-Football Graham Wright says the impending debut is great reward for a deserving player.

“Harry has been knocking down the selection door for the whole season,” Wright said.

“Had it not been for a PCL injury last year, he’d have likely made an appearance at senior level sooner.

“We’ve been really impressed with his intent and work rate on the training track, and we’re looking forward to seeing him show his wares in the AFL.”

Jones was one of the stand out performers in last year’s VFL campaign, averaging 20.5 disposals and seven tackles in his 13 appearances.

He is one of two inclusions in Hawthorn’s line up, with Paul Puopolo also returning to the senior side.

Luke Breust will miss with a fractured jaw, while Oliver Hanrahan has been omitted.

Hawthorn will head to Sydney on Sunday, before staying in an interstate hub for up to 32 days.
