“We’ve got some lads who have been playing well at the level below and we need to give [our young] guys an opportunity in the next week or two."

They were Alastair Clarkson's words following his side's disappointing loss to Fremantle on Monday night.

So, now it becomes a matter of whether that youth trigger is pulled ahead of the side's clash with West Coast on Sunday.

As Clarkson also alluded to in the moments following the Round 11 loss to the Dockers, the Hawks squad possesses a host of youngsters who have the talent, and the recent form, to take the next step to senior level.

Meanwhile the more experienced pair of Michael Hartley and Darren Minchington have been a constant mention among the reserves side's best players throughout scrimmage matches of the past two months.

From a medical room perspective, Shaun Burgoyne and Jonathon Patton will likely be available for selection this week also.

Hawthorn will name its 22 that takes on West Coast on Saturday at 6.20pm AEST.
