Hawthorn Football Club respects the Tasmanian’s government decision to extend its border closure until at least December 1st

The decision unfortunately means the club will be unable to play games in the state in 2020.

Despite being disappointed, Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves said the club is completely understanding of the Premier’s decision.

“Tasmania has done an incredible job of managing COVID-19 to date, and we completely understand the reasoning behind the extension of the state’s border closure,” said Reeves.

“We will always operate in the best interests of the Tasmanian people and on this occasion that unfortunately means not travelling to our home away from home in 2020.

“While we are incredibly disappointed, we also fully support the Premier’s decision and we look forward to continuing our long standing partnership and playing games in Tassie in 2021 and beyond.”

2020 marks a significant milestone in Hawthorn’s partnership with Tasmania, with the club and the state celebrating 20 years of partnership.
