Hawthorn VFLW has made seven changes to its Round 1 team as the side looks to bounce back against Darebin on Sunday.

Both the Hawks and the Falcons endured losses in their respective season openers, with the two clubs intent on squaring their ledgers in Round 2.

The Hawks will be without their captain Jess Trend though after scans confirmed she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in last week’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Trend will miss the remainder of the season in a bitter blow to the team’s campaign.

Hawks add Bramble to the mix

GM-VFL & VFLW Football Dan Napoli says the club was shattered after its worst fears were confirmed during the week.

“Losing Jess, our captain and an integral part of our culture, is undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow,” Napoli said.

“As a club, we will wrap our arms around Jess and provide her with our full support and care.

“Knowing the character of Jess, she will remain a significant part of our program and ensure that she continues to lead and aid in the development of our young list.”

Hawks VFLW premiership player Olivia Flanagan will make her long-awaited return to the side, while Maddi Shaw and Nicki Cormack will also be welcomed back.

Three Eastern Ranges products in Izzy Khoury, Tilly Hardy and Jess Grace will pull on a brown and gold jumper for the first time this weekend.

The exciting Chloe Bain will also make her first appearance of 2021 after recovering from a concussion she suffered in a practice match against Geelong last month.

Dominique Carbone will return to Darwin this weekend to play for her local club Darwin Buffaloes in the NTFL finals series, while Abbey Holmes has been managed.

The Hawks will take on Darebin on Sunday March 7 at La Trobe Uni Bundoora at 11.30am.
