What is 'Burra's Yama' training at Hawthorn?

Hawthorn renamed their 'Captain's Run' training session to 'Burra's Yama' in early 2022 in consultation with Hawks player and Yorta Yorta man Jarman Impey. The new name, along with other naming changes across the club, is done in support of education and preservation of Indigenous language.

'Burra's Yama' translates to 'Bosses Run' in Yorta Yorta language, as shared by Impey when explaining the name's origins on HawksTV.

AFL clubs' traditionally have a 'Captain's Run' training session the day before a match with training activity led by the team captain as opposed to coaches.

A 'main session,' as it is sometimes termed, is held mid-week encompassing general conditioning and skills drills.
