New recruit Jack Ginnivan has labelled his move to Hawthorn as “a dream come true”.

It comes after Hawthorn swooped on the premiership forward after striking a trade deal with Collingwood on the final day of the Continental AFL Tyres Trade Period.

Speaking on his first day at Bunjil Bagora on Thursday, Ginnivan – who has supported the club since he was a kid – reflected on his earlier days as a Hawks fan.

“I used to barrack for them since I was a little kid, so it’s such a dream come true for me,” Ginnivan said.

“One of my favourite players was Sam Mitchell, I grew up watching him and had his number on my back.

“These are the things you dream of as a little kid, so for it to now happen is so special.”

Hawthorn’s young list and attacking game style is something that the electric small forward is excited to be a part of.

“The young core group here, and just the excitement the boys play with – they’re always fast and moving the footy forward,” Ginnivan added.

“People like Changkuoth Jiath and Dylan Moore are so exciting to watch and it’s going to be so great to be a part of.

“Luke Breust was one of my idols as well since I was little, I always wanted to play like him. I used to copy his goal-style routine, so it will be great to stand by him in the forward line.

“If Mitch Lewis isn’t marking them, hopefully he can bring them to ground and I can kick a couple of goals from a few crumbs.”

At just 20 years of age, Ginnivan arrives to the club as a premiership player, having just tasted the ultimate success with the Pies late last month.

“It was a pretty crazy time. It was such a great achievement with all my mates back there and a memory I cherish forever – it was such a special day to be a part of.

“I’ve only had two weeks off so I’m still a little bit in vacation mode, but I’m super excited to come back.

“It’s always good when you’re training in the sun, and it will be great to meet everyone.”
