Three Hawks are listed as tests following the mid-season bye, with Mitch Lewis looking likely to return via the VFL next week.

James Worpel is still recovering from the quad cork which saw him subbed out in Round 13 then sidelined for the Adelaide Crows clash, while Jack Scrimshaw suffered a minor hamstring injury in the VFL last weekend.

High Performance Manager Peter Purge provided an update on the trio, as well as detailed how skipper James Sicily is progressing and gave an update on Bodie Ryan and Will Day’s rehab.

James Worpel (Quad cork) – Test

“James wasn’t able to recover quickly enough to be available for the Adelaide Crows game with the significant quad cork. Given there is no game this weekend with the bye, he’ll be in a much better position to resume training we would expect so we’ve listed him as a test and then we’ll know more about his availability once the players return this weekend and we get back into some work.”

Jack Scrimshaw (Hamstring) – Test

“Jack suffered a hamstring injury in the VFL game last weekend during the first quarter, he’s been scanned and it is on the lower end of severity and with the bye this weekend, he is some chance of being available for Round 16. We will need to assess him over the week and then make a decision with his availability based on how he progresses.”

Mitch Lewis (Knee) – Test

“Mitch is listed as a test, but we are expecting him to be available to play Round 16 in his return game from his ACL. It’s around 11 months since he’s played football, really exciting for him. He’s on our maintenance program for the next few days through the bye and will return to main training with the group on Saturday, as we have a full session this weekend which will lead into a full week of training and into some strong match play at VFL level, we’re looking at somewhere around the three quarters/70 minutes of match play.”

James Sicily (Hip/Abdominal) – TBC

“James has started some straight line running and is feeling much better, we’ve been able to get a little bit of work into him now he has settled and it’s really just seeing how he progresses over the next week with some conditioning and whether we make that decision to return to football next week. But we’ll have more information closer to this weekend when the players return, about his progression into next week’s training.”

Bodie Ryan (Clavicle) – 5-7 weeks

“Bodie Ryan with his clavicle, five to seven weeks, we’re hoping that is more towards the five weeks range, Round 20 return thereabouts. But he certainly is able to resume some conditioning and running, just no contact training until we get the okay from the medical team to progress that, which will be weeks away at this stage.”

Will Day (Foot) – 5-7 weeks

“Will is listed as about five to seven weeks, as mentioned last week we’re aiming for a Round 20 return. His training is progressing nicely in the rehab program, which is really exciting. So that timeline is shrinking and starting to come down, we’re looking forward to his progression over the coming weeks.”
