The 28-year-old won the club’s best and fairest award, her fifth overall, after leading the team in disposals, tackles and clearances. The star midfielder also notched up her 75th game in 2023, becoming one of the first players to reach the historic milestone. She is now ranked third in overall games played in AFLW, with one of those matches including a premiership with the Lions. Bates became one of the most decorated players in the league by winning the competition best and fairest, the AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year and AFL Players Association AFLW Most Valuable Player awards in Season 6, becoming the first AFLW player to win all three individual end-of-season awards.
