“I thought it was a bit like the floor of the stock exchange.”

That was diehard Hawthorn fan and renowned comedian Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann’s take on the way the Hawks’ coach's box operates.

Lehmo got a first-hand look at how Hawks’ coach Alastair Clarkson and his team function during a game, when he was a guest in the coach's box during last week’s match against Richmond.

He described it as a fascinating experience.

“I didn’t give it a lot of thought beforehand, so it was all really interesting,” Lehmo said.

“I thought it was a bit like the floor of the stock exchange.

“There was a lot of information flying around and a lot of decisions being made really quickly, but it was interesting to see the whole team and how well they worked together.”

Lehmo said it had been interesting to watch how information flows from the coaches to the players – and how instructions from the box come to fruition out on the ground.

But what was the most surprising thing?

“It’s just the amount of information, I guess, that surprises you – all the stats they’re analysing and the number of different plays they have, when they call them and for what reason,” he said.

“It was all pretty fascinating – some of it was like a second language.

“I almost needed an interpreter there to explain some of it to me.”

While the Hawks couldn’t come away with a win against the Tigers, Lehmo was confident they could bounce back against the Eagles.
