It has been a tough month for the Hawks in terms of injuries, with James Sicily joining the likes of Shaun Burgoyne, Ben McEvoy and Will Langford on the club’s injury list.

According to Director of High Performance Andrew Russell, the severity of Sicily’s injury came as something of a shock after the young defender managed to play out Saturday’s game.

“We’re obviously really disappointed about Sis,” Russell said.

“He played the game and didn’t really have any issues.

“He came out of it with a sore wrist, and we were all surprised when [the scans] came back and saw he had a scaphoid fracture.

“He’s having surgery this afternoon, and that will see him out for around the next six weeks.”

On a more positive note, Burgoyne is nearing a return to the field, having progressed well in his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained in Round 14.

“Shaun’s going really well.

“We expect him to miss this week and then be available for the week after versus Fremantle.”

Kieran Lovell is a test to play this week, after injuring his ankle in Box Hill's Round 15 clash. According to Russell, he sat out the second half of the game, but has progressed well this week.
