MILDURA already boasts Lake Hawthorn, and now it’s getting Hawthorn’s Lake.
Brian Lake, that is.
The three-time premiership defender will accompany the 2013, 2014 and 2015 premiership cups on their 1,150-kilometre round trip to the Mallee town later this month.
Mildura won the right to host the cups for a day, after winning Hawthorn’s Cups to Country competition.
Lake’s visit is an added bonus.
This time last year, the 251-game veteran was getting his skinfolds tested, running time trials and practicing his smothering… which we all know paid dividends on the final day of the season.
Now he’ll get to experience the best that Mildura has to offer.
With whispers of locals having a Gatorade golf buggy ready and waiting to drive Lake down the main street, it promises to be a day to remember.
But if that falls through, a quick dip in Lake Hawthorn is surely on the cards.
