EXCITING Hawthorn youngster Jed Anderson will miss the remainder of 2014 after having season-ending shoulder surgery.

Placed on the long-term injury list in early April, Anderson will now miss the rest of the season after it was decided surgery was the best course of action for the shoulder he injured in Box Hill’s season opener.

“A couple of weeks ago Jed had to have surgery on his shoulder,” General Manager – Football Operations, Chris Fagan told hawthornfc.com.au

“It looks like from what the doctors are telling us at this point in time that the damage that was there, he won’t be right to play again this year.”

After being struck down by pneumonia late last year and missing the Club’s pre-season training camp in South Africa, Anderson worked hard when he returned for pre-season training in January and got his fitness back up to the level required to play competitive football.

That hard work paid off when he featured in Box Hill’s first game of the season, however, his return ended prematurely when he injured his shoulder against Williamstown after gathering 20 disposals and kicking two goals.

It was originally hoped that a rest period would allow him to continue playing this season.

Fagan said, however, that surgery would allow the promising youngster to have a full pre-season and get ready for season 2015.

“That (his age) was a big consideration in him getting the surgery now and getting him right so he can so a full pre-season,” Fagan said.

“We’re really confident we’ve got a great player for the future.”
