HAWTHORN Vice-captain Jordan Lewis has finished equal 10th in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.

After an outstanding season, Lewis finished the year tied with Sydney’s Luke Parker on 66 votes after being awarded five votes from the coaches in the win over Collingwood on Friday night.

Lewis finished the game with 34 disposals, the second-most of any Hawthorn player on the ground, along with 11 marks, six inside 50s, four clearances and a goal.

Defender Josh Gibson was deemed best on ground in the final round victory though, with a game-high 36 disposals off half-back.

Last year’s best and fairest winner was awarded the maximum 10 votes by Alastair Clarkson and Nathan Buckley.

Playing as a more attacking defender on the night with Brian Lake and Ryan Schoenmakers occupying the key defensive posts, Gibson was given some offensive freedom by his coach.

He wreaked havoc on the Pies, with his 36 disposals coming at 83.3 per cent efficiency. He also took 11 marks and six one percenters, an equal team-high.

Forward Jack Gunston was the second most influential player on the ground according to the coaches, polling seven votes for his efforts.

The most dangerous forward on the ground, Gunston finished the game with five goals to take his season total to 51.

What was impressive about his game though, was that he used used further up the ground at times by Clarkson.

Pushing up onto the wing, Gunston was able to get himself involved through the midfield and then push forward to impact the scoreboard.

Along with his five goals, he picked up 23 disposals at 87 per cent efficiency.

Sam Mitchell also hit some form on Friday night, picking up three votes for his 30-disposal and 10 clearances game, while Grant Birchall picked up one vote.

Steele Sidebottom was the only Magpie to poll, earning four votes for his 36-disposal effort.
