HAWTHORN defender James Frawley has received some good news, with the first-year Hawk’s left shoulder not requiring surgery.

Frawley dislocated his left shoulder in the second quarter of Hawthorn’s 38-point win against Essendon on Saturday and was subbed out of the match.

GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan told HawksTV that Frawley could be back within three to four weeks.

“He damaged some ligaments in his shoulder on Saturday in the second quarter,” Fagan said.

“We’ve had a series of scans over the last few days and discussions with our medical people and it looks at this point in time that James will probably miss three to four weeks.

“He’ll go through a rehabilitation process.

“I noticed he was out there running at training this morning, which is a good sign.”

It’s the second time Frawley has suffered an injury against the Bombers this season, with a pectoral injury sustained in Round 2 keeping him out of action for four weeks.

Fagan said fellow key defender Matt Spangher could be in selection contention this week, with the ankle injury he sustained while playing for Box Hill Hawks in the VFL on Saturday also not as serious as first thought.

“He rolled his ankle – he’ll be a test this week,” Fagan said.

"I think it was one of those ones where he was off more for precaution than he was for it being serious.

“We’ll just see how he rolls out over the next couple of days, and we’ve only got until Friday night, so we won’t be taking any risks with him.

“If he‘s not right to play he’ll have the weekend off.”

Midfielder Sam Mitchell has recovered from a corked leg, while forward Jack Gunston – who wore a glove in Saturday’s match – continues to recover from a dislocated finger he sustained in the Hawks’ Round 12 win against Adelaide Crows.
