BOX Hill Hawks have returned to the top of the VFL ladder following a 100-point win over Coburg on Sunday.

Jed Anderson starred for the Hawks with six goals in their 26.5 (161) to 8.13 (61) triumph over the Lions at Piranha Park.

The Hawks extended their lead at every change after opening up a 29-point advantage at quarter-time.

It was their tenth win this season, which moves them a game clear of second-placed Williamstown.

Box Hill Hawks Coach Marco Bello said it was a great result heading towards the latter stages of the home and away season.

“It was pleasing, and not only by what the scoreboard showed, but the way we went about it,” he said.

“For the last two months of the season, we’re going to have to be playing similar footy to what we did on the weekend.”

Hawthorn-listed midfielder Alex Woodward, who has been dominant at VFL level this season, suffered a knee injury inside the opening five minutes of the match.

But Bello said he was pleased by the Hawks’ depth, with a number of players standing up with Woodward sidelined.

“Woody’s obviously been instrumental for us, but we have got a lot of depth at the club,” he said.

“Jonathon Ceglar was dominant in the ruck, Jonathan Simpkin finished with 33 disposals and nine clearances, and Jonathan O’Rourke had 22 in three quarters of footy and six clearances.

“Jed Anderson played a little bit more midfield this week, he had 27 disposals, kicked six and that was pretty influential.”

The Hawks had plenty of contributors right across the ground.

Shem Tatupu kicked four goals, while Simpkin and James Sicily slotted three each and Ceglar, Marc Pittonet and Sam Grimley all chipped in with two goals.

Tim O'Brien was also named in the Hawks' best players.

The Hawks will take on Werribee for the second time this season, at Avalon Airport Oval on Sunday at 2pm.
