SIX Hawthorn players have been named in the 40-man All Australian squad.

Shaun Burgoyne, Josh Gibson, Jack Gunston, Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell and Cyril Rioli have all been named.

The Hawks have more representatives in the initial squad than any other club.

Fremantle, West Coast and Western Bulldogs are the next best, each having five players nominated.

Lewis is one of just six All Australians from 2014 to be nominated for the squad, alongside Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe, Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray, Sydney’s Josh Kennedy, Richmond’s Alex Rance and Collignwood’s Scott Pendlebury.

Four of the Hawks named – Burgoyne, Mitchell, Rioli and Lewis – have been named in the All Australian team before, with Gibson and Gunston both vying for their maiden berth.

The final team of 22, to be named on Tuesday 22 September, is selected to best fit team balance as if to play a match.

The selection panel comprises Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Mark Evans, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.
