HAWTHORN will make a return to the SCG in 2016, playing Sydney Swans at the ground for the first time since 2012.

The Hawks will take on the Swans in Round 17, on Thursday July 14 at 7.20pm.

The teams have met eight times in the past three seasons.

Five of those matches were played at the MCG – including the 2014 grand final – with the other three played at ANZ Stadium.

The last time the Hawks and Swans met at the SCG was in Round 22 2012, with the Hawks securing a thrilling win.

The Swans kicked away to a 26-point quarter-time lead, before the Hawks fought back to claim a 15.12 (102) to 14.11 (95) win.

The lead changed hands multiple times after the major break.

At three quarter time, the Hawks led by four points, but the Swans held a five-point lead in the 28th minute of the final term, thanks to a Ryan O’Keefe goal.

However, with just minutes on the clock, Shaun Burgoyne kicked a third goal to reclaim the lead for the Hawks, before Brad Sewell added the sealer.

Burgoyne finished the match with 26 disposals and three goals, while Sewell also finished with 26 disposals and Jordan Lewis 28.
