LIAM Shiels will captain Hawthorn for the second time when he leads the team out against Richmond this weekend.

Shiels, who led the Hawks’ in their first NAB Challenge match of 2015, will have a second crack at the top job at Beaconsfield’s Holm Park Recreation Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

One of four premiership players returning to the line-up – alongside Shaun Burgoyne, Cyril Rioli and James Frawley – Shiels said he was excited to skipper the Hawks again.

“I’m really looking forward to the experience,” he said.

“It’s a little bit outside of my comfort zone, but I guess that’s when you learn the best.”

The 24-year-old is one of the club’s emerging leaders, alongside the likes of Grant Birchall, Ben Stratton, Ben McEvoy and Jack Gunston.

Birchall led the Hawks’ in their first NAB Challenge match for 2016, a 21-point win against Carlton last week.

Shiels said he would be looking to Birchall for some pointers.

“I think Birch went really well last week, so I’ll have to get some tips off him tomorrow about how to rev the boys up because they had a great win last week against the Blues down in Tassie,” he said.
