THREE-TIME premiership Hawk Paul Puopolo says the hunger to keep winning will not desert the Hawthorn playing group any time soon.

Speaking to the AFL’s First Bounce program yesterday, the live-wire small forward said being successful was what playing football was all about.

“The journey never really stops, you play footy to win premierships – as long as you’re playing you want to keep winning,” he said.

“I think that goes for everyone in the competition, they all want to win.

“For us, nothing changes. We’ve got some new players and they’re hungry to go. They are a bit of a driving force for us to keep going.”

Puopolo said that while the absence of star key forward Jarryd Roughead would be a significant hurdle, he was optimistic that a number of players could step up to fill the void.

“Roughy is a hard person to replace and the role he plays for the side is why we’re a premiership side,” he said.

“We’re going to have some young guys coming in, and they can bring a lot to our team.

“There’s guys just busting to have a crack and when they step onto the field they might be able to present something that we’ve not seen before.”

Puopolo also hosed down his rumoured ability on the FIFA soccer video game, saying that rumours he was ranked in the top 20 players of the game worldwide were fairly exaggerated.

“There’s a lot of sugar on that story,” he laughed.

“I’m probably number one at the club. I don’t play that much to be honest, but I do beat James Sicily a lot.”
