HAWTHORN ramped up preparations for Round 1 with an intra-club match at the Ricoh Centre on Monday afternoon.

The Hawks played a three-period match simulation, with all but a handful of players participating in the match.

Vice-captain Jordan Lewis and star defender Grant Birchall showed no signs of the niggling injuries which kept them out of the Hawks' final NAB Challenge match, getting invaluable game time into their legs ahead of the Hawks' clash with Geelong at the MCG on Easter Monday.

Will Langford backed up his strong efforts in the VFL a fortnight ago, finding plenty of the footy, while youngsters including Kieran Lovell, Billy Hartung, Jonathan O'Rourke and Daniel Howe also showed some promising signs.
