BOX HILL Hawks have gone down in a thriller for the second week running, suffering a seven-point defeat to Casey Scorpions on Saturday night at Casey Fields.

The Hawks opened up a 10-point lead at quarter time, before the hosts turned around the deficit to go into half time with a 16-point lead.

Just one point was the difference at the final change, before the ladder-leading Scorpions held on for a 12.11 (83) to 11.10 (76) win.

Among Box Hill’s best were skipper David Mirra, playing his 100th VFL game, and Hawthorn-listed players Teia Miles, Angus Litherland, Jonathan O’Rourke, Matt Spangher, Brendan Whitecross.

Miles continued his strong form at VFL level, kicking a game-high four goals to go with 17 disposals.

On return from injury, O’Rourke collected a team-high 23 disposals – plus six inside 50s and five clearances – while Ryan Schoenmakers kicked one goal from 12 disposals.

The Hawks were beaten in the disposal count (291 - 356) and the inside 50s (39 – 52) but had their chances to win the game.

In a low-scoring final term, Miles kicked his fourth to level the scores, before a Scorpions goal at the 25-minute mark saw them home.

The result leaves the Hawks with a 4-2 record, ahead of a break next week.
