MATT Spangher can’t seem to catch a break.

The 2014 premiership defender looks set for another significant stint on the sidelines, after sustaining a hamstring injury in his comeback AFL match against Brisbane Lions on the weekend.

Spangher injured his hamstring early in the opening quarter of Saturday’s match at the Gabba and played no further part in the game.

The 29-year-old had played four consecutive matches at VFL level after overcoming a calf injury, before his return to senior ranks.

“It’s very disappointing for him,” GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan said on Tuesday.

“He played four senior games last year, and in his comeback game he’s done some significant damage to that hamstring, the hamstring tendon. (It’s a) fairly high-grade injury.”

“At this point in time it looks like it’s going to be an eight-to-ten-week rehabilitation, which is really disappointing for Matt and obviously for his teammates.”

In this week’s Bupa Recovery Report, Fagan also speaks about Isaac Smith and Josh Gibson – who sustained knocks against the Lions – as well as Ryan Schoenmakers and Luke Hodge.
