BOX HILL Hawks have suffered a second consecutive defeat, going down to Geelong Cats by 49 points at Simonds Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

The Hawks started strongly – leading by two points after an even first quarter – but the Cats took control in the second term to lead by 21 points at the major break.

Will Langford and Teia Miles each had 11 disposals at the major break.

Late goals in the third term from Langford and Pat Lawlor reduced the Cats’ lead at the final change to 30 points, but the Cats kicked away in the final term to run out 18.10 (118) to 10.9 (69) victors.

The Hawks dominated the clearances (47-31), but lost the possession count (325-357) and the inside 50s (41-51).

Kieran Lovell finished as the leading disposal winner for Box Hill Hawks, picking up 25, while David Mirra and Sam Iles – in game 150 – had 23 and 19 touches respectively.

Lovell was named among the Hawks' best, alongside fellow Hawthorn-listed players Blake Hardwick, Kurt Heatherley and Langford.

Jake Summers, Chris Jones, and Lawlor each kicked two goals.

For Geelong, Mitch Clark kicked five goals from 18 disposals and 11 marks, while fellow AFL-listed players Josh Cowan (32 disposals) and Sam Menegola (28 disposals) had plenty of the ball.
