Review

Gibson played the first 12 games of the 2017 season before succumbing to persistent groin troubles.

In mid-August, the 33-year old announced that this year would be his last.

It brought to an end an incredibly decorated career.

Three premierships, an All Australian honour and two Peter Crimmins Medals in premiership years.

Gibson’s presence in Hawthorn’s back six will be dearly missed.

A word from: Brett Ratten

“’Gibbo’ played the first half of the year.

“He has been a great warrior for us throughout his career with injury. He played through injury throughout the year but could only get to halfway and had to reassess that and unfortunately never got back, which was a real shame.

“He’s been one of our players of the back six for so many years, winning multiple best and fairests, and he is just a true warrior down there. But unfortunately, we couldn’t get him out there as much as we would have liked in 2017.”
