Hawthorn Captain Jarryd Roughead will miss up to three weeks of training after undergoing surgery to his left knee today.

Roughead presented with low level swelling in the area last week and after consultation with medical experts, the club made the decision for Jarryd to proceed with a minor clean up procedure.

Hawthorn GM – Football Operations Jason Burt said Roughead remains upbeat despite missing the pre-season camp in New Zealand.

“We found out that Jarryd requires a minor clean up procedure which means that he’s is likely to be out for the next 2-3 weeks,” Burt said.

“This is obviously disappointing for Jarryd to miss out on pre-season camp however he remains positive and will now concentrate on his rehab.

“This is only a minor set-back and we expect Jarryd to be fresh and ready for the start of the season.”
