Hawks speedster Jarman Impey has praised the impact teammate Shaun Burgoyne has had on him since joining the club late last year.

Impey, who arrived at Hawthorn via a trade from Port Adelaide, has so far impressed in the brown and gold this season, averaging a career-high 15.57 disposals across all seven games playing predominantly up forward.

Speaking to Triple M on Sunday the 22-year-old revealed that Burgoyne had had an important influence on him already in his short time at the club, with the 345-gamer having also joined the Hawks from Port Adelaide at the end of 2009.

“I absolutely love playing with Shaun,” Impey said.

“Since I’ve been at the club he’s just tucked me under his wing and shown me the ins and outs of the Hawthorn Football club.

“So he’s been magnificent.”

Now sitting in fourth spot with five wins, the Hawks have enjoyed a great start to 2018, with Impey confident the side is on track for a successful year with key forward pair Paul Puopolo and Cyril Rioli still to return in the coming weeks from injury.

“Internally we have great belief in what we can do,” he said.

“We’ve got a few injuries so it’s going to be good once we get a few players back but we’re just chipping away and trying to get as many wins as we can.”
