We are nearing the half-way point of the season and there are many Hawks lighting up the stats sheet on a weekly basis.

Here are the Hawks ranking among the best in the competition in certain statistics so far:

Tom Mitchell

Get your notepad out, we might be here a while. The prolific ball winner has had a few 'off' games this season, but one could argue that this was due to a case of leather poisoning. Mitchell broke the record for most disposals in a game in Round 1 against the Pies, amassing a whopping 54 disposals – beating his personal best against the same opposition last year. The contested animal leads the league in clearances (averaging 9.3 per game) and until last week was ranked first for disposals (34.1), but is now number two for that stat. He is currently third in the competition for inside 50s (5.4), contested possessions (16.6) and effective disposals (23.9).

Luke Breust

Luke Breust is proving to be one of the most damaging forwards in the competition this season. He is second behind Roo Ben Brown in the league goalkicking with 23 majors, but hasn’t been selfish by any means. The 27-year-old ranks fifth in the league for goal assists (1.3 per game) and fourth for score involvements (7.9), showing he loves to set up scoring opportunities for his teammates as much as he loves to get on the end of one himself. Breust’s defensive side of his game has flown under the radar, ranking second in the competition for tackles inside 50 (2 per game).

James Sicily

While James Sicily has missed two games through suspension, he has still managed to dominate in the stats department. Sicily deadly right boot has been utilised regularly across half back, ranking third for kicks per game (averaging 17.8) and second for metres gained per game (514.8m). He has also become one of the better interceptors, averaging 9.3 intercepts per game (5th in the league) and 8.2 marks per game (3rd).

Liam Shiels

Liam Shiels is known for his team-first attitude and this season has been no exception. The 27-year-old has laid the fourth most tackles per game in the competition (averaging 8) and ranks fourth for tackles inside 50 per game (1.9). The hard nut laid 14 tackles against the Hawks in Round 4, three off his career high.

Jack Gunston

Like Breust, Jack Gunston has made a significant impact up forward across the first eight rounds in all areas. The mobile forward has kicked 17 goals in 2018, the eighth most in the league, while he has recorded the eight most score involvements (7.5 per game). Gunston is also among the top 20 in the competition for goal assists, marks inside 50 and tackles inside 50.

Isaac Smith

The pacey wingman has been running rampant this season, ranking ninth in the competition for running bounces (1.75 per game). Smith was one of the leaders in total metres gained until Harry Cunningham paid him attention last week, keeping him to his lowest return for the year in this stat. He still ranks 12th in the competition for metres gained, averaging 431.4 metres per game.

Mitchell Lewis

Mitchell Lewis has been banging the door down while playing for Box Hill in the VFL. The 2016 draftee is equal third in the league goalkicking with 13 goals in five games, including a career-high four goal haul against Casey last week. He has already surpassed his 2017 tally of 10 goals from 13 appearances.
